Dr Gary Hinson

Dr Gary Hinson is an IT governance specialist, working for over two decades in information security, risk management and IT audit. He holds CISM, CISSP and CISA qualifications plus a PhD and an MBA.

 

Since 2000 Gary has spent time as a consultant for major European and New Zealand organisations in a variety of industries including pharmaceuticals, utilities, IT, engineering, defence and financial services. In 2002 he established IsecT Ltd. (www.isect.com), an IT governance consultancy specialising in information security, IT audit and IT governance. Through IsecT, Gary has worked as a consultant for a number of organisations including AXA, Siemens, Euroclear, Chaucer and the Bank of New Zealand. Gary has also established a successful global security awareness brand, NoticeBored (www.noticebored.com), and continues to innovate in that field.

 

Gary is a committee member at ISACA Wellington and sits on the editorial board of EDPACS, a longstanding IT audit/security industry journal.  He was the Secretary for the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) UK, helping to launch its London Chapter in 2003.  He also belongs to various professional bodies and contributes to the NZ Standards committee developing the ISO/IEC 27000-series information security standards. He is presently writing a set of four ISO/IEC 27000 books with colleagues from the US and UK.
