Creating a Successful Training Environment – Avoid Failure!

1. Mastering the Fundamentals

  • Understand the training cycle – plan, design, deliver, assess and evaluate training
  • The background to learning and development from an international perspective
  • What is competence-based learning and how do we define competence
  • How to write courses up into outcomes to allow for postcourse measurement
  • Adult learning principles and how we ensure that adults remain motivated
  • The barriers to learning and how to overcome them
  • How to set in place a culture of learning
  • The roles and responsibilities of the trainer / facilitator
  • What are the different learning styles and how to accommodate all learners in the training room environment
  • How to deal with learners who have language, literacy or numeracy needs
  • What occupational health and safety standards are incorporated into training

2. Plan and Promote a Training Program

  • Determine training needs and find out the current competencies of the group
  • Identify the gap between the required competencies and the learner’s current competencies
  • Decide on a plan of action that includes non-training alternatives
  • Agree the most appropriate delivery approach and activities – including on the job training; off the job training; out-sourced training to a provider
